Ms. Alice Ma previously worked in local and international firms, government, and regulatory authorities before rejoining law firm for private practice in June 2014.
In the past 28 years, Ms. Ma advised banks and business entities on loan financing and securities’ creation and release. She also advised on land and tenancy matters: users, adverse possession, easement, rights of way, restrictive covenants, and deed of mutual covenants. She was actively involved in creation, negotiation, novation, and termination of leases/tenancies of shops, offices, warehouses, industrial and domestic premises, and licences for car park/farm/fish farm/squatter land. She advised landowners on compliance of building and repair orders and defended prosecution of their breaches.
Ms. Ma served regulators of estate agents and telecommunication operators and advised on their and other professions’ duties and liabilities and dealt with their complaints and disciplinary matters.
She acted for loss adjustors, insurers, reinsurers and insureds on theft and robbery, fidelity, intermodal transport, director and officer policy covers and the relevant defence and loss recovery work.
Ms. Ma also handled significant and intricate contentious probate and family disputes and their settlement; multi-jurisdictional asset tracing and recovery; in addition to advancing and defending contractual and trust claims, judgment enforcement, bankruptcy and winding up. Ms. Ma also negotiated commercial terms and settled disputes for local and overseas families, trading partners and corporates in procedurally effective methods.
For over 28 years Ms. Ma has focused on commercial and financial negotiation and advice, litigation, arbitration and mediation.
Ms. Ma advises on banking and financing, land and tenancy; professional and regulatory matters, investment and employment contracts. She helps settle clients’ disputes and renders advice on insurance covers, local and foreign asset tracing and regulatory issues. She enhances her practice in recent 15 years to resolving contentious family and probate disputes.
Ms. Ma has a resourceful knowledge on banking, derivatives, convertible bonds, and other investment products litigation; shareholder and contractual disputes; internet, identity, and documentary credit frauds; debenture, charge and security enforcement; bankruptcy; receivership and insolvency practice.
Due to pervasive complex internet, SWIFT and mortgage fraud cases in recent years, Ms. Ma made more applications for injunctive relief and attachment to recover fraud and crime money. Growth of family and probate disputes led to her extension of practice to mental health applications under Part II of the Mental Health Ordinance (Cap 136) re appointment of committee and their remuneration; estate planning; probate, family, and property disputes.
